When you begin throwing away your plastic, many well-meaning, anti-plastic crusaders will advise to store it somewhere in your home rather than throwing it in the landfill in order to spare the environment.

We advise against this.

Why?

Making it visible

If the environmental devastation is not visible, it’s easier to hide the ecological and public health crisis that plastics corporations are responsible for and unwilling to address, as well as the complicitness of governments and elected officials that stay silent and allow it to happen. Alas, the short-term harm is the only way to thwart a long-term status quo.

Taking a stand

Without exercising the power of our public masses, a future of devastation and unlivability will be all but certain. Just as plastics manufacturers and government actors are forcing plastics into our homes and lives, they and others must be forced to see the consequences and scale of plastics exposure to everyday people. We need to demonstrate that we will no longer stand by while plastic is literally being shoved down our throats. In fact, we are now at a point where it is impossible to avoid toxic plastics exposure, especially in our homes, no matter what we do.

Displaying the evidence

We at PlastX International believe the evidence shows a resounding confirmation that the catastrophic loads of plastics and microplastics in the environment (current and future) are an existential threat. Not just to humans but to every living thing on the planet. If you don’t believe us, just visit our Resources page.

The right to a plastic-free life

All people have a right to safe living spaces and easily accessible plastic-free product alternatives. People should not have to scour every corner of the internet searching for that one plastic-free unicorn item. Make no mistake. We are here to help people make their living spaces more healthy by making it easier to find safe alternative products and removing unnecessary plastic (by which we mean all plastic). But we also are here to start a movement because it’s clear: No one is going to fight for us but us.

Putting pressure where it belongs

Making this catastrophe visible is how we put pressure on those with power, including plastics corporations, product suppliers, and regulating entities, to begin addressing the problem upstream. If it becomes too overwhelming for the local landfill, they will be compelled to reckon with it. Put the responsibility back where it belongs, and make it their problem.
