Why Reinvent The Wheel!

There are a number of great businesses out there that have already developed innovative products to solve specific problems around plastics exposure in the home. We’d love to work with businesses that are making lives better with existing products, and we welcome their products in our shop!

PlastX Product Criteria

Micro- and nanoplastics exposure goes far beyond single-use grocery bags and water bottles. As a result, we consider plastics and polymer exposure broadly, wherever it may be. Items on the PlastX site must not contain any of the following:

  • Plastisol, foam insert, and similar polymer liners in screw-top lids

  • Non-stick coatings of any kind on cookware

  • Silicone bakeware and silicone-coated materials such as parchment paper

  • Synthetic polymer and silicone gaskets for airtight sealable containers

  • Plant-based polymers (such as that derived from castor bean oil)

  • Petroleum-based (non-plant based) waxes

  • Synthetic, non-natural product packaging (e.g. single-use, non-compostable shrink wrap)

  • Synthetic, non-natural shipping materials (e.g. packing tape, packing peanuts, labels)

  • Thermal paper with heat-sensitive coatings (such as those used for receipts)

  • Synthetic fibers (such as those used in clothing and other textiles)

100% Home-Compostable, 100% Recyclable, or Both

We strive to have only items on our site that are 100% home-compostable

American-Made

While we do not require products on our site be made in the United States, we encourage American-made products to help make our products more affordable at a time when tariffs have become more widespread.

Putting It All Together

The idea for PlastX originated when it became clear that people needed help to put what they were learning piece meal about the effects of microplastics in the environment into actionable steps to reduce their exposure.

The solutions we currently have at our disposal, including innovative products and processes, are an important piece of the puzzle, but there is still considerable confusion about how to begin or prioritize the transition to plastic-free living in a world where microplastics exposure goes far beyond single-use grocery bags and water bottles.

Similarly, people should not have to spend huge portions of their waking hours scouring the internet for non-plastic versions of everyday household items.

How We Can Help

PlastX fills this gap by providing a service that helps clients understand their risk to micro- and nanoplastics in a setting where they actually have control: their own homes. We then help them build a holistic plan to remove plastic from the spaces where they spend most of their time and provide tools toward creating healthier living spaces at their own pace.
